It’s almost Fourth of July weekend, so before we pull out the hot dogs and start detonating that row of vociferously patriotic fireworks, we thought we’d take a quick moment to talk about business in the U.S. On the list of most American things ever, owning your own business is right up there at the top with baseball, jazz, and sodas with free refills. So in honor of the American Dream, let’s countdown the top 10 friendliest states for businesses in 2015.
Chief Executive magazine’s survey of 511 CEOs in the U.S. measured the taxes and regulations, quality of the workforce, and living environment for each state. Here are the results:
10. South Carolina
3. North Carolina
The results are clear about one thing—CEOs favor states with low taxes and progressive business development programs. Also, if you check the most recent electoral map from 2012, 9 out of 10 states listed here were red states. Theories on why that is? Happy Fourth of July!
